Still working on the reedcam - sorry
The cables are all run, the camera is "on" but now I am working on setting up a static IP, so the transmission is intermittent at best. Thanks for your patience.
Reed making is easier than this.
I make oboe and bassoon reeds every day. Some days - hundreds of them. I've been doing this for around 30 years. I like it - and some days I even Love It. The struggle and experimentation of reed making is my passion, my living, and my privilege. I started, own and run Charles Double Reed Company, which started on a lark and became bigger than I ever expected.

Here's the formal press release . . .
We are proud to announce that Charles Double Reed Company has acquired the rights to The Popkin Bassoon Reed Making Book, a timeless masterpiece of bassoon literature!
It has been out-of-print for a time, and we are excited to have been chosen to return it to print. We are eagerly publishing the book right now. The new version will be beautifully reprinted, with upscale spiral binding and a new front cover illustration by Elsie Popkin.
We're taking advance orders now. We are unsure of the final retail price of the book at this time. It should be in the $25 to $35 range. If you go to our website and add this item to your cart today, we will contact you as soon as the book is ready. You will not be charged for the book until it ships. You can view our website listing for additional details.
Wow - we worked hard for this, and I'm so pleased that the project is almost complete. It's hard to keep a secret!
There is turmoil in the world of FF thread manufacture, and we're going to have a major announcement about our new role in thread shortly.

to actually finish something. I feel like I've got environmentally imposed adhd - nothing gets finished. I do not like multi-tasking.
Sorry to take so much time between postings. I'm working on the new catalog, updating the website, reeds (the reedcam is hooked up and has to be set onto the network) and working out the details of the ff nylon thread fiasco.

and my reedmaking will be live streaming through the day, or intermittently, as it occurs. I'll put an announcement on the front page of the website when it's up and running - hopefully next week. If you have any expertise in this stuff, and want to share any insights - I'd love to hear from you.
I hurt my shoulder this last few weeks, and though it doesn't impinge on my reedmaking or playing, it's a constant pain that affects my day. Apparently, if you ski and fall, and ski and fall, and ski and fall, things like this can happen. Mostly I don't fall, but I've gotten to the point now that if I do fall, it's usually at a high speed on a difficult course, and I tend to tumble great distances. A few weeks ago I came over the lip of a slope and took more air than I thought I would, landing on my tips. The skis popped off (thank God), and I slid down the hill. It took almost twenty minutes to crawl back up to the skis, get them back on and then move on down the mountain. All the time I was doing this, skiers were coming off the same edge at full speed, flying past me and precariously close to me as I yelled out "skier down" to warn them. I was a wee bit tense, to say the least.
I have 11 instruments that have come in for resale in the past 10 days, and I just finished photos. Now I get to work writing up the details and getting 'em all up on the website. When it rains it pours.
